AID Chennai vision document

There are 30 districts, 385 blocks and 50,000 villages in Tamilnadu - about 6 crore people.  There are 30,000 government primary schools in the state.  But half the children in the fifth standard cannot read.  This means lakhs of children attend five years of school and are unable to even read a simple passage in Tamil.  In every block, we have primary health centers and village health nurses. But our child malnutrition rate is one of the worst in the world - worse than even Sub-Saharan Africa.

How to address these complex problems? Where do we start?  How can we impact such a large scale? This document presents a vision.  A vision to bring together movements, organizations and individuals to work for change.  A vision that will touch the lives of the poorest people across the state of Tamilnadu.
