Tamilnadu waterlogged
Heavy rains lashed Tamil Nadu and other neighboring states in October. As a result, many people had to evacuate their houses and move to alternative places. But the worst affected were the people living in thatched houses who lost their houses as well as their belongings. Some people even lost their entire crop. AID Chennai volunteers helped people shift to relief camps. They also provided food, children's clothes and blankets to the needy. Health situation was grave as people were prone to water-borne diseases. A health camp was organized in Kallukuttai, where the water was neck-deep. To travel into the habitation (which was fully flooded), volunteers and the doctor had to travel by a thermacole raft! Volunteers conducted surveys to identify the poorest people whose mud homes were damaged. The idea was to supply basic materials so that the people can repair the damages themselves. Vembakkam, Sulagiri, Bhuvanagiri, Koovathur and Chennai are the focus areas that have been identified.
