The Hundred Block Plan Program of AID India attempts to scale up our efforts to address holistic development in health, education, and community empowerment over large areas. It covers several blocks in Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Jharkand in partnership with the various bodies of the People's Science Movement. In Bihar, women have formed 283 women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs). Village health activists keep track of children’s weights, degrees of malnourishment, and other vital events. They also meet with the public and the panchayat to sensitize the community about the status of malnutrition in their village. Workers like Rekha, Snehlaata and Anita have brought a lot of hope to the womenfolk in the village. Today people in each village know that malnutrition can be assessed by weighing the children, and that it can be combated via a healthy diet and appropriate care. Expectant mothers are seeking and following advice of health workers. In 31 blocks in Katihar, Purnia, Araria and Kishanganj districts, people have performed street plays to encourage parents to send their daughters to school. In Chahe Pahhartalli village, people campaigned to get medicines required by TB patients. In the Asha ki Bahali community, workers were able to win elections without paying bribes. Kamayani, an AID Jeevansaathi, has studied these efforts and will analyse the data to share the lessons and spread the successes of this work. S. Govindarajan, Milwaukee
