Long journeys begin with small steps

Decentralized progress, even on a large scale, begins with tiny steps. AID began in 1991 with $10 donations from a few graduate students. 15 years on, we are now proud to say that AID has made a significant positive change in the lives of many marginalized people in India. In December 2002, a few of my friends and I made a small contribution to AID from our student paychecks. A few months later, we were supporting a rural development center in Maharashtra! Through AID, we now have an avenue to connect with the people central to the processes of social change in India. Every year through our ‘One for India’ campaign, we appeal to you to take one small step towards development in India. Our initiatives in India range from working for the upliftment of the poorest of the poor to supporting the most entrepreneurial and imaginative young people working at the grassroots today.

We urge you to take part in their struggles, give to these people and communities, draw vital lessons from their lifestyles and be a part of our hope for a more equitable society in India. Your contribution, at any level, is important to our initiatives in India. ‘Hesitating to act because the whole vision might not be achieved, or because others do not yet share it, is an attitude that only hinders progress’, said the Mahatma. We hope that you share our vision and will walk with us down the road to progress. Please visit www.oneforindia.org to make your contribution.
