Green Tapism: A Review of the EIA notification |
|
In September 2006, the Ministry of Environment and Forests issued an amendment of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, which is expected to have a far-reaching impact in India. Environment Support Group (ESG), a Bangalore-based NGO committed to advocacy for reform of environmental decision-making, has published a book entitled, “Green Tapism: A review of the EIA Notification”. This book is a scathing critique of the EIA, and concludes that it prioritizes industry interests over environmental and social concerns, and excludes local governments and the public itself. A well-researched report, it is a must-read for all stakeholders of the environment. ESG and AID hope to generate public awareness of this critical legislation.
