MP CM's visit: Protests against unkept promises |
During a meeting held by SC Chouhan in the Bay Area, meeting attendees, including AID volunteers, emphasized that justice for Bhopal and Narmada must precede further investment in Madhya Pradesh.
On May 15, 2007, the Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan met investors in San Francisco to lure investments to his state. The MP Government is infamous for its unjust attitude towards families affected by the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, as well as towards families in the Narmada Valley. Meeting attendees, including AID volunteers, emphasized that justice for Bhopal and Narmada must precede further investment in Madhya Pradesh.

As the Chief Minister began his address, he was greeted with a banner that reminded him of his responsibilities for providing justice to people in Bhopal and the Narmada valley. Fliers were distributed detailing the various false promises made by the Madhya Pradesh government. We criticize the deplorable attitude of public officials like Shri Chouhan who travel abroad with public funds to attract investments but are completely unaccountable to the public, and hostile to the struggles of farmers and workers rights in their own states.
