New primary school coming up at Kalpakkam

`Bhoomi Puja' for the Eureka Nursery Primary School was held recently
CHENNAI: Seven months after the tsunami struck, AID-India is on to its
next phase ? rehabilitation.
To mark the beginning of the rehab work, the `Bhoomi Puja' (foundation
ceremony) for the Eureka Nursery Primary School was held recently at
Kalpakkam.

Preventive health care
In its previous phase of relief operations, the organisation worked in
80 villages providing provisions, preventive health care support,
temporary shelters and constructed balwadis in eight villages.
"We repaired about 146 boat engines and 16 boats and also provided a
few boats. We provided nets in 17 villages. Along with the joint
effort of SCOPE, we were able to provide 83 sets of nets with
accessories to the affected in Uyyalikkuppam," Cynthia Xavier, an AID
co-ordinator said.
The NGO is also conducting science-training camp for teachers to make
effective use of simple science experiment kits and audio visual aids
provided to them.
Training camp
About 40 volunteers attended a science-training camp conducted at the
Spring Field Higher Secondary School on Sunday.
