A New Era for Kondh Schools |
Members of Andhra Pradesh's Kondh tribe actively administer and run 10 schools, even as support pours in!
The formerly nomadic farmer community known as the Kondh tribals, in Andhra Pradesh, following a partnership between AID, Prajachetana and Nisarga Trust, settled down in villages and sought the right to claim an unambiguous place for themselves - geographically and socially.
In due course, with assistance from AID’s Bay Area and College Park chapters, ten schools were started in ten different villages of the Kondh natives, with village citizens themselves playing an active role in the construction of the thatched huts that served as the school-houses. Educated youth from adjoining tribal villages were recruited as teachers in the newly established Kondh schools.
In most recent times, individual as well as organizational donors have extended tremendous support and commitment towards the continuation of the educational endeavours of the Kondh natives. In addition, the Kondh schools have also received offers of teacher-training resources from more established schools. And thus, the Right to Education stays alive within the Kondh community!
