Indians, Pakistanis join hands for peace |
Mingling long after the last anthem of
the Independence Day program, people from 14 organisations shared pakodas
along with stories of families, children, and their own youth.

Who could have imagined a joint
celebration of India's and Pakistan's Independence Days? And yet, the event
felt entirely natural. Men and women of
all ages relaxed together in the obviousness of the message people conveyed so
creatively. People want peace. Peace is fundemental to development.
After screening a video clip of the India - Pakistan peace
march, Professor A.H. Nayyar, activist from Islamabad who participated in the
march explained the proposed Security measures based on no-war pacts, as well
as relaxing travel restrictions in South Asia. People sang,
read stories and poems aspiring not only for the end of war, but towards a
future of health and opportunities for all. Can it be that we have started a tradition for peace?
